Who will get $7,787 Canada Child Benefit?

The following eligibility criteria are to be satisfied in order to be receiving $7,787 Canada Child Benefit:

  • The claimant need to be a Canadian citizen, legally permitted refugee or alien, or any individual registered under the Canada’s Indian Act;
  • The claimants who have claimed child as dependent and are earning annual income within the prescribed threshold to be deemed as low- or middle-income household can receive this Canada Child Benefit;
  • The claimant needs to have duly filed their federal income tax returns for the preceding tax year and paid all the tax dues. The claimant needs to make sure they claim their children as dependent while filing tax returns;
  • The ascertainment of the amount is based on the qualification of the child under the CCB program. Hence the child must be aged below 18 years of age and needs to be residing with the claimant who is claiming CCB payments.

If the parents are separated then the CCB amount 2025 will be divided as per the shared custody between the parents usually 50% each. The revision of the CCB payment amount is linked with the Consumer Price Index of the country and hence is revised based on the average CPI rise in the preceding 12 months.

How is the reduction calculated in $7,787 Canada Child Benefit?

Any claimant household with one qualified child has an AFNI more than $36,502 and up to $79,087 will receive reduction in their Canada Child Benefit at the rate of 7% exceeding the portion of the AFNI. Further, if the AFNI is more than & 79,087 then the reduction in CCB payments is calculated as this “$2981 + 3.2% of the exceeding portion of the AFNI”.

However, the reduction in CCB benefits for each child is also subject to the total number of children in the same household. Hence if there are two children in the household then the CCB reduction rate for households with AFNI between $36,502 and $79,087 will be 13.5% whereas for households with AFNI more than $79,087 the CCB reduction rate is calculated as this “$5,749 + 5.7%”.

Similarly, if there are three children in the household then the CCB reduction rate for households with AFNI between $36,502 and $79,087 will be 19% whereas for households with AFNI more than $79,087 the CCB reduction rate is calculated as this “$7,728 + 8%”.

Further, if there are four or more children in the households then the CCB reduction rate for households with AFNI between $36,502 and $79,087 will be 23% whereas for households with AFNI more than $79,087 the CCB reduction rate is calculated as this “$9,795 + 9.5%”.

How to claim $7,787 Canada Child Benefit?

The claimant can apply for the Canada Child Benefit using their online account at the CRA portal used while filing tax returns. The new parents can also apply when the child is born using the CRA portal. Further, if the parent claiming CCB prefers physical application submission then they can use Form RC66 to claim it before the CRA. The CCB benefits are delivered from the next month of the month the associated child was born in or the parent qualified for the benefits and the canada child benefit payment date is usually the 20th of each month.
