Great Mother’s Day Gifts

There’s something about a handmade gift–it has special qualities that can’t be rivaled by a store-bought item. My family has exchanged handmade trinkets, cards, and crafts since I was able to imagine & create. Some are carefully tucked away to be saved for the memories they carry, but others are used and enjoyed on a daily basis. This Mother’s Day, I’ve done a little searching to find modern, wearable gifts that your Mom will love.

Leisl, from CocoKnits, is a flattering garment on many people, and easy to customize for different figures and preferences. It makes a great summer cover up, or tunic top to wear over your favorite dress, skirt, or tank and jeans. Linen is a wonderful choice for this pattern, and only gets better with age.

The Easy Folded Poncho is a great beginner pattern, or a relaxing knit for someone more experienced, this piece is an eternally popular pattern from Churchmouse Yarns & Teas, a shop on Bainbridge Island.

Have you decided last-moment that a knitted gift is the only way to go for mom this year? This show-stopping aran shawl from Lisa Hannes will knit up quickly if you’re in a time crunch–the movement created by the cables in this design is my favorite detail.

So, maybe it’s a little late to start this one for this year’s Mother’s Day, but Julie Hoover’s new design for Purl Soho, Hawley, is an amazing addition to anyone’s wardrobe. Use a high quality wool and she’ll be able to wear this classic design for years.

These Turkish Bed Socks, also by Churchmouse Yarns & Teas, have a simple, fun construction that makes them a perennial favorite for gifting! Even better, they are often a great stash busting or leftovers project that you likely already have yarn for. Leave the tassels off and pair with a tube of your favorite foot lotion and these make a wonderfully indulgent gift for Mom!
