We love any chance we have to hang out with other people equally passionate about knitting and crochet! There’s something awesome about chilling with people who ‘get’ your obsession with yarns, want to share their latest project, or just drink tea and stitch. Here are a few cool ideas we’re snagging for our next #crafternoon
Get fancy with the treats
Alana Dakos of Never Not Knitting came up with the simplest, cutest way to adorn cupcakes with balls of yarn and little mini knitting-needles, as shown above. You can do the same using her helpful tutorial here.
Host a Knitcrate-Unboxing Party
Do you and your friends subscribe to Knitcrate? Meet up once a month and unbox your crates together (and then argue about who gets to keep which colors!) This picture is from a party Knitcrate & Knitting Around NY hosted together (yes, we totally do that.)
Watch a movie that features knitting
Sometimes, we’re all talked out! It’s fun to pop some popcorn, leave all the lights on, and watch a movie where great knits appear on screen throughout. Our current favorite? The Guernsey Literary and Sweet Potato Peel Pie Society, on Netflix. Then talk about all the cute knits and look up patterns for them together.
Meet somewhere new
Yeah, it’s “normal” to knit at a local coffee shop or the yarn shop, but what about at a local cocktail bar (with good lighting), a lunch spot, or in the park? Move your crafting group somewhere new and let others know they’re welcome to join, too. (Come on… what is going to be bad about brunch and knitting time?)
If you don’t have any crafting friends around, don’t despair! Thanks to web apps like Google Hangouts, Instagram Live (which you can add people to) and Skype, you can hang out with friends even when they don’t live nearby. Of course, you can always come hang out with us in the Ravelry group, too ;)
