The knitting industry has been flourishing in the US market for quite some time now. It was an old tradition of knitting woollen wears for family members but now it is more of a hobby-cum-passion project of many US citizens. The Knitting Yarn Subscription Box is a combination of knitting essentials such as yarn skeins, knitting tools, design pattern, etc.
There are several companies that offer Yarn Subscription Boxes on a monthly basis. KnitCrate is one such US-based company that has been offering its knitting subscription services in the global market. The KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box has been offered at a price as low as $25.99 for a month. This box contained a pair of yarn skeins, 2 design patterns for knitting and crocheting and one additional surprise item.
KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box
Not every person, who wants to have knitting as a hobby or pursues a knitting project, has the time to make purchases of the required essentials on a regular basis. This is where subscription boxes come into the picture as these were predetermined bundled offerings that provide knitting essentials to knitters. The box usually is bundled with yarn and knitting designs as per the knitters desired pack which is to be delivered at the postal address of the subscriber on a regular basis, usually monthly. The KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Boxes are offered in two varieties:
- First is the regular KnitCrate one that offer knitting and crochet designs with 2 skeins of yarn and a surprise item; and
- Second one is the Sock Crate that offers yarn and sock design patterns.
However there are a few more varieties but they are offered in partnership with other yarn companies, i.e. Malabrigo and Mrs. Crosby and these ones are only delivered on a quarterly basis unlike the regular ones that are delivered on a monthly basis. The delivery charges are to be paid in addition with the monthly subscription charges.

KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box Reviews
The company has numerous reviews in their name on various knitting blogs. Here a summarized version of a few of them:
- Subscriber One – The KnitCrate offers an amazing personalized experience that is very engaging and satisfying. The quality of yarn and tools is adequate for producing good quality knitting products. The KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box allows doorstep delivery of selected items at very economical prices. The use of handmade natural dyes is so much better and the design patterns are so refreshing and learning new designs and tips regularly helps improve the knitting skills very effectively. Further the company allows many options to choose from in the yarn types and quality is very top notch.
- Subscriber Two – I had a great experience with KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box. I continued the service for over three years and was fully satisfied with the quality and consistency of their products. The yarn was so luxurious at its price and the knitting experience was very easy after following the guidelines to create the designs that were sent every month. I was so impressed at how much I learnt and grown as a knitter but I no longer can continue the subscription due to time constraints as my work and personal life no longer allow free time to keep up with the knitting hobby and I can’t keep on collecting the boxes if I can indulge in them so I decided to cancel my subscription.
- Subscriber Three – I am a long-time knitting enthusiast and I just happened to stumble upon the KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box service about a year ago and was very much pleased with the $39.99 monthly plan. It has never disappointed me and even pleasantly surprises me every now and then. I am really very eager for the delivery of the KnitCrate box every month. The yarn is just superb and the colors are so vibrant and eye-pleasing. The designs are so very trendy that when I finish my knitting project and use the finished project myself, I am very proud of it. Therefore eventually I am now thinking of opening my own boutique with the help of some of my knitting community members and if all goes well I shall be a successful entrepreneur soon.
- Subscriber Four – My friend introduced me to KnitCrate and I am glad he did. I was so skeptical in the beginning as I was still in my early stage of knitting and didn’t know much about the intricacies of which product to purchase as raw material or what the prices were. But KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Box solved all those queries and at a very economical price. Cherry on cake is the monthly delivery which never disappoints right at my door steps. The contents of the box are very satisfactory for my liking. The yarn options and quality in particular is the best. I don’t even have to ever consider switching to any other Yarn provider for my needs. But I recently got an email from the company that they will be closing their services soon due to operational difficulties. I am really heartbroken with this news. I don’t know what more to say but I will miss it for sure.
Current State of KnitCrate Yarn Subscription Services
The KnitCrate Company is no longer providing its services and has been closed completely since 2022. It was a decision that was not due to poor service or product quality rather due to the disruption of the supply chain in the wake of Covid-19 virus. Similar to many other businesses, KnitCrate’s business was based on an outsourcing model and many of its raw materials came from third-party suppliers. But when the lockdowns hit the economy and supply chain the cost of commodities made it too difficult to offer services at the same prices and the KnitCrate company couldn’t sustain its business model for long. Therefore, the company has to close its operations eventually in December 2022.
