Dye for KnitCrate

We have seen such stunning work from our fiber community and are so excited to announce our Knit Crate X Indie Dyer Open Collaboration! We are calling all dyers of the fiber community to submit for a month long feature and the opportunity to remained stocked in the shop year round. We are looking for a wide range of styles, techniques, and personalities. Your collection should be of 10 reproducible colorways that represent you as a dyer and artist.

What are the steps?

Submit Proposal

  • To begin the process, please submit photos of your past work that accurately represent your style and favorite and/or most reproducible dye techniques by completing the Dye for KnitCrate form here. Our creative team will then come together to review submissions and decide if it is a good match for our mission and company. When submitting, we ask you to include a short introduction of who you are, your experience with large orders and a link to your website where we can see your previous work. Please also include a one-page mood board of how you would approach this project and include your preference of base weight (fingering, sport, dk,etc…) Please submit these details in PDF format (multiple pages are OK).

  • Once you have submitted your proposal, you will be contacted by our team within 2–3 weeks with approval to move forward with your design, or with detailed feedback as to why your proposal was not chosen. If yours isn't chosen, do not be discouraged! We are always looking to collaborate with our crafting community and dyers so we encourage you to send us more design proposals again in the future!

How it Works

  • If your proposal is approved, you'll work with our creative team to come up with a theme or mood as a starting point to develop your collection! We supply the yarn, send you shipping labels, and also pay you a flat dye fee per skein! We keep the yarns in stock as we go, and will place bulk orders with you to replenish our stock as needed.
  • Schedule

  • After your yarn support arrives, you will have two weeks to develop 10 unique colorways based on the theme, and ship samples back to us for review. After your samples are approved, we will send you bulk order of blank skeins to complete the collection plus extras to be dyed in specified colorways for sample knitting.
  • Designer yarn support skeins must be delivered to us 2 weeks after the blank yarn arrives to you.

  • We’ll ask you to produce the bulk order within 1-2 months, depending on the quantities ordered and dyeing techniques used. We will essentially leave you alone during this time, but if you ever have questions or concerns you're welcome to reach out to our creative team for assistance any time!
