Many Canadians who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces or Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been receiving monthly benefits as pension along with other benefits. These benefits are offered under the Veterans Affairs Canada. The VAC has consistently supported the post-retirement lives of these veterans by the means of its financial, educational and health services.
However, a group of these members went to the Federal Court and filed a Class-Action Lawsuit against the Canadian Authority due to the underpayment of disability pension between January 1st, 2003 and December 31st 2023. This representative suit was filed to revise the payments in accordance with the contemporary inflation rates. The Federal Court has approved the Veterans Pension Settlement 2025 in pursuance of the aforesaid Class Action Lawsuit.
Veterans Pension Settlement 2025
This settlement is going to benefit approximately over 330,000 members of the CAF and RCMP. The improper calculation of Veterans Pension Benefits will be now revised and will be indexed with inflation rate. Further, the previous arrears will also be settled by the means of this Veterans Pension Settlement fund in 2025. The arrears will be settled for members who were receiving inadequate pension benefits between January 1st, 2003 and December 31st 2023. Especially, the members who were receiving disability benefits are going to be affected more by the revised payments because the contention of this Representative Lawsuit relied primarily on the issue of insufficient disability benefits.
The Veterans Pension Settlement was approved by the Federal Court on January 17th, 2024. This settlement will encompass all the previous and existing members of the CAF or RCMP as well as their surviving spouses and dependents. The settlement claim isn’t going to require any additional actions to be taken on part of the members and those who were receiving Veterans pension during the aforesaid duration between 2003 and 2023 will receive their share automatically.
The payments of the shares will be delivered as per the existing payment method being chosen by the veteran pensioners for receiving their monthly pensions. The share for each member of the Veterans Pension Settlement 2025 will be given as a one-time payment and monthly pension amount will be revised in the preceding months from the date on which settlement was being approved. The previous and existing members of the VAC will be benefited greatly by these incremented benefits.
